Анотація

Нерідко у фаховій літературі та довідкових виданнях можна зустріти тезу, що В. Черчилль був запеклим противником жіночої емансипації. Однак при спробі віднайти їй підтвердження стає очевидним, що ця теза необ’єктивна, бо позиція політика стосовно вказаної проблеми весь час змінювалась. У зв’язку з цим мета статті — з’ясувати реальне ставлення В. Черчилля до надання жінкам виборчих прав, а також вплив його політичної діяльності на втілення цієї законодавчої новації у Великій Британії. На основі аналізу джерел та літератури автори доходять висновку, що Черчилль радше скептично ставився до надання жінкам виборчих прав. Він не відкидав цю ідею повністю, проте реально підтримав лише дуже обмежені зміни, які стосувалися невеликої частини жінок.
